John has been deeply embedded in the arts for over 30 years as a painter working in acrylics, oils, and gouache. His experience spans both plein air and studio painting, as well as teaching classes, workshops, and art school programs, including over 20 years with Haliburton School of Art & Design. Loyalist College and the Southampton Art School have also hosted John’s workshops and courses. Over the last ten years, his teaching has expanded internationally, leading groups to paint in Tuscany and Avignon in the South of France. His artistic influences include historic masters such as Anders Zorn, John Singer Sargent, Joaquín Sorolla, Tom Thomson, members of the Group of Seven, Andrew Wyeth, and others. More recently, he has drawn inspiration from Robert Henri, Richard Schmid, and Kevin Macpherson. John approaches every participant at their individual skill level, facilitating growth through the development and successful application of tools related to colour, shape, and design. Learning how to critique one’s own work is an important part of that process. John loves to demonstrate, assist, and coach artists of all levels.

Bogdan Luca is an internationally acclaimed painter known for his expressive figurative work and masterful use of colour and composition. His teaching emphasizes classical foundations paired with contemporary expression, encouraging artists to deepen both technical skill and emotional presence in their work.


Bogdan’s retreat at Claramount Club will focus on immersive studio practice, guided critiques, and developing personal voice through painting. Participants will benefit from daily instruction, group discussion, and the opportunity to work within the Club’s inspiring gallery spaces, and plein air at locations throughout the County.
